<p>The 103rd FS started life in June 1924 with trainer and observation types until mobilized in February 1941 for wartime duty. The unit returned to the Pennsylvania National Guard after the war, with federalization in December 1948, operating the B-26 at Southwest Philadelphia Airport. The unit was mobilized for the Korean War with RB-29s as the 103rd Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, and returned to state duty in December 1952 as a Fighter-Bomber Squadron with P-51Ds and later F-84Fs. The F-94A/B was operated from 1955 when the unit was known as the 103rd FIS, and was followed by the F-89H/J in 1959. The 103rd became an Air Trasnport Squadron in April 1962 with the C-97G, followed by a move to NAS Willow Grove the following year. A tactical air support role began in May 1969 with the U-3A/B, followed by the O-2A and the OA-37B in March 1981. The OA-10A began replacing the Dragonfly in mid-1990.
